How to Work with Integrity, Inclusiveness & Resistance
with the Ultra Staff May 8, 2026 4:00—5:00 PM, Ultra Office, Tivoli NY or Virtual (your choice)
Many of us want to know how to help right now...how to protect vulnerable people within our community and in other communities, how to turn the tide against cruelty, greed and violence. We offer a way to lean into the challenges without losing sight of our missions and what we do best.
Part support, part advising, this is guided conversation about how to do what we do in the most ethical way possible, toward the goal of making the world a better place for us ALL. Sign up HERE.
Having Your Systems Serve Your Ethics: A Workshop
with the Ultra Staff June 10, 2026 10:00—11:30 AM, Ultra Office, Tivoli NY or Virtual (your choice)
The real-world implications of how we spend our time and money are huge. Many of the companies we do business with are deeply involved in everything from AI to military programs to aiding ICE...and more. But the idea of migrating off of, say, google/gmail is overwhelming for many of us. In this workshop, we will look at some of the biggest corporations we engage AND their friendly progressive alternatives. Not only will this protect your organization from things like data-sharing, it will affirm rather than contradict your ethical commitments.
This includes very light training on the alternative options and how to use them. Sign up HERE.

Developing an Organizational Commitment to Land Justice
with Heather Bruegl May 14, 2025 4:00—6:30 PM, Ultra Office, Tivoli NY
A land acknowledgement statement can be an anchor for a much larger program of reckoning with the history of the land on and with which we work and live. For public-facing organizations, this process can involve educating communities and thinking, internally and collectively, about reparations. In this workshop, we offer a structured approach to developing an organization-wide recognition of the history of land-theft and subsequent exploitation/extraction, while also articulating meaningful actions that your staff and board can take toward land justice and reparations.
Nonviolent Leadership
with Caroline Crumpacker & Anees Hasnain
April 26, 2025 11:00 AM—2:00 PM, Ultra Office in Tivoli and Zoom
In the overwhelm of a busy nonprofit, during a crisis, it is so easy to forget the importance of a supportive, generative workplace culture. Whether decision-making is shared or top-down, whether the staff is large or small, a commitment to a generative, inclusive culture with open communication defines how an organization functions, and resilient, trauma-informed leadership allows a staff and board to stand shoulder to shoulder in bad times — such as these.
We will discuss how to support one another while our organizations, values, labor, and artistry are being surveilled and targeted. With an emphasis on mutual support, judiciously shared decision-making, collaborative structures, and developing tools and techniques for handling conflict and disruption. Our work together will include hands-on work, breakout groups, discussion, and lots of Q&A.
The Power of Not Now: Lunar Calendars, Divination, and Defying Patriarchal Time
with K Prevallet
March 22, 2025 10:00 AM—5:30 PM, Ultra Office, Tivoli NY
How have writers, artists and thinkers throughout the ages conceptualized time differently than the ticking clock running towards annihilation? What kind of time does the historical moment we are living in – one in which the patriarchal logic of technocratic progress, white supremacy, and fascism are attempting to dominate – seem to be calling for? What can each of us do to resist systems of brutality surveillance even as so many others are suffering and unable to escape?
Over the course of one day, we will spend the morning exploring this line of thinking through writing and close reading a convergence of philosophical and poetic texts; we will spend the afternoon enacting sequence of somatic time rituals which include an attunement of your own calendrical system using divination and energy medicine to help you gain perspective, build your resistance, and stand your ground.
The wake of the Spring Equinox gives a surge to this gathering, as we come together with all that is happening in each of our worlds and the collective world we are resourcing.
Your Own One-on-One Annual Appeal Letter Workshop
with the the Ultra Staff Winter Mondays 2024/25 10:00—11:30 AM, Ultra Office, Tivoli NY
Develop the perfect hook but do it with sincerity. Express the need for funding, but don’t sound too needy. Boast but don’t brag. Writing a compelling letter to potential donors at the end of each year is a tour de force of fundraising restraint and bravado. Have a one-on-one workshop with Caroline as you develop your appeal.
Poetry As Coexistence: A Workshop
with Cole Heinowitz October 26 & 27, 2024 10:00—5:00 PM, Ultra Office, Tivoli NY
What kind of writing emerges if we accept that no stable boundary separates the human from the nonhuman: that our existence is a coexistence? What kind of writing does this dynamic equilibrium with the world of animals, fungi, plants, and all other self-organized systems call for? How does one write in a way that acknowledges that the free-living aerobic bacteria that long ago became our mitochondria are inextricable from the present speaking self? Over the course of this workshop, we will explore these questions through a sequence of somatic attunements, observational field work, and language experiments. We will also engage with brief selections from Paracelsus, Goethe, Emerson, Jack Spicer, James Hillman, and Timothy Morton.
